Bearded iris is consistently among the favorite flowers of summer residents and experienced gardeners who appreciate its beauty and variety of varieties for any flowerbed.
However, in order for the plant to reveal the full potential laid down by the breeders, a little work will have to be done.
The main care for irises occurs in the spring. It is during this period that the main work is carried out, which ensures luxurious flowering.
Rhizome release
First of all, remove the mulch layer that was laid out in the fall. Pay special attention to the plant rhizomes located on the surface.
In order for active growth to begin, they must be well warmed up in the sun. This to a certain extent affects the quality of flowering.
No organics
In spring, it is very important to remove organic mulch, as it can provoke the development of fungal diseases: the roots rot, spots appear on the leaves. Bearded irises do not like organic matter.
Top dressing
Only complex mineral fertilizers (nitrophoska, nitroammophoska) without a predominance of the nitrogen component. If the irises are still small, then the application rate is 10 g. For adult plants - 20-40 g.
The fertilizer is scattered over the soil surface around the bushes. The fertilizer is dug into the ground. This is done carefully, trying not to damage the roots. The fertilizer is applied once in the spring.
