It is better and easier to prevent rust on currants than to try to save the plant later.
This is a fungal disease that can be controlled with fungicides, but they do not work immediately. In addition, it is not advisable to use the preparations when the berries are ripening.
How to eradicate rust
1. The first treatment is carried out on the blossoming foliage. The measure destroys the stock of infection that remained from the previous season. In this case, "Horus", "Ditan" are used, preparations in which the copper concentration is not higher than 1%.
2. The next important step in the fight against rust concerns the treatment before flowering. During this period, the leaves resemble an accordion or a fan, but flowering has not yet occurred.
They are treated with broad-spectrum fungicides or sulfur-based preparations (Ditan, Topaz, Mancozeb).
The third treatment is after flowering. During this period there are no flowers and the ovary is formed.
3. After harvesting, the fight against rust continues. Complex treatment is carried out. It will also protect against spotting, anthracnose, and aphids. Any fungicides are used, except those containing copper.
After fruiting, the currant is provided with nutrition. The plant needs phosphorus and potassium during this period.
Processing nuances
1. Treat the bushes thoroughly. The product should cover all the foliage – both above and below.
2. Fallen leaves are regularly removed and not allowed to lie under the bush, otherwise there is a chance of the problem recurring. Leaves are either burned or placed at the very bottom of the compost pit for at least 2 years.
3. When preparing the solution, strictly follow the instructions. Exceeding the dosage may harm the plants.
