Despite the fact that pepper is a popular crop, not all owners of private farms get good harvests.

Many people are familiar with the situation when, instead of the cascade of fruits promised by the manufacturer, only 2 small peppers ripen with difficulty on the plant.

Many people think that the photos and promises of the producers are lying. But in fact, the reason for the failure lies in agricultural technology.

If you follow certain rules, the yield of this crop can be increased by 2, and sometimes even 3 times.

Rule number one: the right variety

If you follow agricultural technology, but peppers grow poorly, you should try different varieties and hybrids. By trial and error, you will be able to select several options that are most productive on your site.

Rule two: proper care

Since peppers are close relatives of tomatoes, many people care for them using the same scheme. But peppers differ in their requirements from tomatoes. They require more frequent watering and more fertilizers.

Peppers need organic-rich soil, they respond to nitrogen fertilizing at the beginning of the growing season. Before planting, the bed should be filled with compost (at least 1 bucket per 1 sq. m), and then regularly apply fertilizers, alternating foliar and root fertilizing.

Rule three: neutral ground

Tomatoes tolerate slightly acidic soil, but the soil pH for peppers should be neutral.

Rule number four: shading

If the plant is heat-loving, this does not mean that it will bear fruit well in the scorching sun in the hot summer. In such conditions, the fruits simply will not set. The bed needs to be shaded.

Rule number five: age

Pepper is a perennial plant and reaches its peak fruiting in the second year of life. Some enthusiasts even dig up the bushes in the fall, transplant them into pots and keep them indoors all winter, thus getting fresh peppers for the table. And in the spring, the overwintered plants are planted back in the garden.

There is a simpler option. You need to sow the seedlings a month or a month and a half earlier. This method has its drawbacks. The seedlings will need good additional lighting and a large pot (2-3 liters), since the bush must fully develop. But in this case, fruiting will begin earlier, and a strong, well-developed plant will already be in the garden. This method is doubly convenient if you have a greenhouse.

Rule number six: cover in autumn

If you grow peppers in open ground, then in August you should take care to cover them at night, protecting them from temperature changes and cold dew. If you use agrofibre, you can keep the bed under it constantly.

Rule seven: formation

Peppers are formed into 2-3 stems, all side shoots are removed. They take a lot of nutrition and water that could go to growing fruits. Due to this, the yield can drop significantly.

Consider these recommendations when growing peppers so that they will delight you with an abundance of fruit.
