In spring, it is absolutely necessary to renew the layer of paint on tree trunks. And if in autumn this is done to protect the trunks from burns, then in spring an additional threat appears - pests.
Over the winter, the autumn paint may fade and may be rendered useless by the bright spring sun.
We will tell you how to prepare trees for whitewashing and what compounds to use for this.
Preparation
It all starts with an inspection for damage. Cracks, frost cracks, and other damage can appear over the winter, which can lead to serious problems in the future. Dead wood needs to be removed.
The work is carried out not with a metal brush, but with a wooden scraper. It is better to cover the ground under the tree with film to make it easier to collect the garbage and burn it.
Then disinfection is carried out with fungicides or the bark is sprayed with a soap-ash solution (2.5-3 kilograms of ash and 50 grams of laundry soap are mixed in hot water at 80 degrees).
Now we prepare the whitewash
To do this, mix 3 kilograms of chalk or lime in 10 liters of water, add 500 grams of copper sulfate. Instead of a thickener, use casein glue or paste in the amount of 100 grams.
The paint should sit for several hours. It should be moderately thick so that it does not spread along the trunk. The composition is not applied very thickly, otherwise, when the whitewash dries, it may crack and begin to peel off.
