Sometimes summer residents face a problem: in one day, gooseberries or currants can lose all their berries.
Gardeners wonder why this happens. Some believe that it is the work of pests. But this is not always the case.
Lack of moisture
This is how bushes often react to heat, to very hot weather. The problem is especially acute when plants suffer from a lack of moisture.
When bushes need watering but do not receive it, the harvest suffers first. The berry tissues are not sufficiently hydrated. They lose turgor, i.e. become less elastic.
Under the sun's rays such fruits literally bake. Currants and gooseberries shed such berries.
Pests
If the shedding is due to pests, the berries do not end up on the ground at the same time. Therefore, the bushes need to be inspected for any parasites or diseases.
As for hot weather, the bushes need regular watering. If possible, gardeners slightly shade the plantings.
