If you are growing tomatoes that require pinching, you will probably have a lot of tops left after the procedure.
Of course, plant waste can be thrown away, but you can also find other uses for it, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert at the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist, and a landscape designer.
So, tomato tops can be thrown into compost, where they will rot, turning into valuable fertilizer.
But if you don’t have time to wait for the fertilizer to be prepared, you can make a nutritious mixture from tomato tops right here and now.
To do this, fill a bucket 2/3 full with tomato tops, then fill the container to the top with water.
Now it’s time to cover the container with a lid or tighten it with film if you don’t have a lid of the required diameter at hand.
Leave the future fertilizer for 10 days to ferment, and the liquid fertilizer can be considered ready.
Before use, it should be diluted with water in a ratio of 1 to 10, after which it can be used for watering at the root.
