Before you go to the store for tomato seeds, you should decide where you plan to grow them - in open ground or in a greenhouse.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what to pay attention to if the choice was made in favor of a greenhouse.
First of all, you need to choose the seed material that is described as resistant to high temperatures.
If this characteristic is neglected, pollen fertility in greenhouse conditions will decrease, which means that the harvest will be much lower.
In addition, tomatoes must be resistant to nutritional deficiencies. According to experienced gardeners, greenhouse plants are more voracious and absorb more microelements from the soil than those growing in open ground.
Finally, make sure that the varieties or hybrids can resist diseases, because in the greenhouse all favorable conditions are created for fungi.
Indeterminate, tall tomatoes with unlimited growth are suitable for growing in a greenhouse.
Indents develop ovaries not through every leaf, but through 2-3, which is why 6-8 fruit clusters are formed in greenhouses. After the 6th leaf, they can be pinched.
