Not all summer residents find a place for flowers on their plot, believing that they serve only a decorative purpose.

In fact, flowers in the garden can perform not only an aesthetic function, but also a protective one. You just need to know which plants are suitable for this purpose.

Since ancient times, one of the main threats to summer residents growing cabbage has been caterpillars. The pests greedily eat the leaves of the plant, leaving gnawed stems.

The appearance of cabbage caterpillars can be avoided by planting marigolds near the cabbage. It is not necessary to create a whole flowerbed. A few flowers are enough so that their aroma will scare away the cabbage moths from the bed.

The whole secret is in the phytoncides that marigolds secrete. Cabbage butterflies cannot stand them, so they will stay away from cabbage.

It is believed that not only the cabbage white avoids marigolds, but also the cruciferous flea beetle. This grasshopper causes a lot of trouble for summer residents every season. Moreover, it harms not only cabbage, but also daikon, radish, turnip and other cruciferous plants.
