Causes of Short and Round Carrots
Carrots like light and loose soil. Therefore, add sand and moss to the bed before sowing carrots and mix well, then dig the soil deeply.
Carrots grow to a depth of 45 centimeters, the soil should not have clods of earth, stones and weed seeds. This can be the reason for short and round carrots.
Carrots are intertwined and have many legs.
This may be due to too much rotted compost or animal humus. Also, if carrot seeds are planted too densely, the seedlings will grow together. Use a seeder or mix the seeds with sand to make the plantings more sparse. The soil in the bed should be moist and loose.
Correct sowing of carrots
Before sowing, you need to prepare the soil, add fertilizer and dig it deeply. At an air temperature of 15 degrees, you can sow carrots.
Planting scheme: there should be 8-10 centimeters between seeds, 30 centimeters between rows. Carrots will start sprouting no earlier than in 3 weeks. To speed up sprouting, you need to soak carrots in hot water 60C for half an hour, then dry a little and you can sow.
Or soak carrot seeds in warm water, move them into a simple damp cloth, put another one on top, soak well with water and bury in the shade of the garden to the depth of a shovel, and water well on top. After 4-5 days, take out the seeds, dry them a little in the air and sow them in the ground. Such carrots sprout in 6-10 days.
Caring for carrot plantings
As soon as the first shoots of 2.5 centimeters appear, thin out the plantings. Very dense plants will grow poorly and twist among themselves. After a month and a half, feed the carrots with fertilizer.
Carrots will ripen in 2-4 months depending on the variety: early, mid-season or late. Don't forget to protect carrot crops from carrot flies, water the rows with a solution of ammonia (30 ml per 10 liters of water) from a watering can.
