Only the lazy have not heard about the benefits of mulching - mulch not only improves plantings, but also serves to protect the soil from moisture evaporation.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told which mulching materials are especially valued by flower growers and why.

1. Mown grass

Grass mass has many purposes. For example, it can be used as one of the ingredients for composting, or it can be used to cover the soil.

Over time, the grass will rot and turn into organic fertilizer.

2. Coniferous litter

This mulch not only looks nice, but you can also get it for free.

It is preferable to use pine needles, which keep the top layer of soil loose for a long time.

3. Leaf litter

As in the previous case, this covering material is free, and therefore is one of the most accessible types of mulch.

Important: very large leaves are not suitable for this purpose, as they will compact into one impermeable layer.

4. Bark

The advantages of wood chips and bark, usually from coniferous trees, include their ability to decompose slowly and their excellent looseness.

And the beautiful dark color helps warm the soil in spring.
