Gardeners choose ash as a fertilizer for plants. But the positive properties of ash do not end there.
Every year the soil becomes acidic and it has to be restored. And wood ash will help with this.
If the soil is acidic, it is immediately visible. Weeds begin to grow and multiply on it, and you can often find woodlice in the garden.
This is why cabbage is sprinkled with ash, as are garlic and onions.
What care to provide for cabbage
The plant will feel good only on neutral and slightly alkaline soil. Cabbage can be treated with ash more than once, it always responds well to this fertilizer.
If you sprinkle ash on top of the cabbage, it will prevent the spread of the cruciferous flea beetle. The pest will not be able to eat the leaves, but this method only works until the first rain. And then you will have to repeat the procedure.
Cabbage can be sprinkled with ash frequently, but only a little, so as not to harm either the plants or beneficial insects.
Wood ash is a free fertilizer that can surpass any mineral fertilizers. It does not contain nitrogen, but ash can boast a large number of macro- and microelements, including calcium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, iron and others.
You can feed cabbage with ash either dry on the leaves or by sprinkling it on the soil.
To prepare the solution, dissolve one glass of ash in 10 liters of water. The solution should be left to sit for half an hour and then you can water the roots with one liter.
