It is important to open roses in a timely manner at the beginning of spring. The main thing here is not to make a mistake with the weather and not to rush to remove all the cover at once.
There are several stages that are observed depending on the method and material of the shelter. We will tell you about everything in order.
1. If the roses are covered with spruce branches, they are removed after the temperature reaches positive values.
2. If the flowers were hilled up over the winter, then they are unhilled after the threat of night frosts has completely passed.
3. The air-dry cover is not removed in early spring. After the snow melts, the material is left, slightly opened on warm and sunny days for ventilation. In early April, this material is removed.
Many flower growers, fearing recurrent frosts, are in no hurry to fully open their roses until mid-April.
What to do after removing the cover
Already in March you can conduct the first inspection of the bushes. The main thing is that there are no black shoots or mold on the bushes.
After removing the cover, it is necessary to carry out cleaning, formative and sanitary pruning, then spraying against diseases and pests, after which new mulch and fertilizers are added.
The bushes are tied to the supports a few days later, after the stems become flexible.
