Even if you applied nutrients in the fall, the soil still needs fertilizer after winter.

If done correctly, this year's harvest could be even more bountiful.

How to restore soil after winter

Sowing green manure

This is a simple way to make the soil lighter, more fertile and of higher quality. Green manure is sown both after harvesting and at the very beginning of the season.

The procedure can be started immediately after the snow has melted, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert at the online publication BelNovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer.

However, it is worth choosing crops that actively develop at low temperatures, since early spring is still quite cold.

You can pay attention to phacelia, oats or mustard. Plants are sown, wait from 14 to 21 days, and then mowed. After digging the soil, it is better to dig the above-ground part of the green manure into the soil for greater efficiency.

This method can also reduce the risk of large numbers of weeds appearing.

Fertilizers

Not all summer residents "trust" green manure, believing that fertilizers will still be more effective in increasing soil productivity.

You need to pay attention to either compost (mature) or rotted manure. As a rule, a bucket of the indicated products is added per square meter.
