Hilling potatoes is a fairly simple task.
Probably every summer resident and gardener knows that this needs to be done. But not everyone knows how to do it correctly so that hilling really brings maximum benefit.
In this matter, as in any other, there are tricks that it would not hurt to know about.
How to properly hill potatoes
Usually, shoots begin to be hilled when their height reaches 15-20 cm. However, even here, everything is not so simple.
You can start hilling potatoes earlier. Early hilling helps avoid weeds, loosening the soil, and an additional layer of soil will protect the plants from frost.
After hilling the potatoes, the bushes will surprise you with their rapid growth and strength.
How often should potatoes be hilled?
During the summer, potatoes are hilled at least 2-3 times, with a break of 2-3 weeks. However, you need to start from what the needs of the plants are.
If you see that the bush is growing in different directions and the tubers are coming out of the ground, then don’t hesitate, it’s time to start hilling.
Nothing bad will happen if you unscrew the potatoes 3-4 times during the summer. At the end of the season, the potatoes will please you with an unprecedented harvest.
