Raspberries affected by bugs have a very unpleasant taste.
There are 40 thousand varieties of bedbugs on earth; they can live in soil, water, on plant leaves and in home furniture.
The raspberry bush is inhabited by a green insect called the wood shield bug.
On raspberry bushes, the bug sucks the juice from the berries and young branches and shoots. At the same time, in order to scare away its natural enemies, it secretes a special enzyme with a very unpleasant taste and smell.
What danger does the bug pose to raspberries:
• leaves behind unpleasant tastes and odors on berries;
• feeds on the juice from the sprouts, which weakens the plants’ resistance to disease;
• having settled on raspberries, it quickly spreads to other garden crops;
• infects plants with fungus. At the site of the bites, pathogens enter the plant, thereby weakening its immunity.
To prevent this insect, it is better to carry out preventive spraying of plants than to fight it later.
How to prevent bedbugs from appearing on raspberries
• Remove last year’s dry leaves and branches. Everbearing raspberries are cleaned in the fall.
• Then all the remains must be burned.
• Thickened plants need to be thinned out, weak bushes removed, and young ones transplanted to another location.
• To prevent bedbugs from settling or hiding in weeds, they must be removed in a timely manner.
• Plant the spaces between the rows with black cohosh - this is a very beautiful perennial flower that repels bugs.
To overcome this invasion, you need to simultaneously fight them in all areas that are nearby.
Means of fighting bedbugs on raspberries
• Once every 7 days, place pieces of film or paper under the raspberry bushes, shake the insects onto them, collect them, and destroy them.
• Spray the plants and the surrounding soil with a systemic insecticide.
• At the beginning of flowering, insecticide treatment is repeated.
• To avoid using chemicals against bedbugs on raspberries, there are many proven folk remedies. For example, treat the area with mustard powder once a week.
Method of preparation: pour 10 liters of boiling water over 100 grams of dry mustard and stir. Leave the solution to infuse and cool. This remedy can repel bedbugs for a while.
