In Rus', cabbage has always had a leading place in cooking, and therefore in the garden.
In order for housewives to be able to cook aromatic cabbage soup, make fillings for vareniki and ferment cabbage all winter long, they still need to be able to grow the vegetable. What was taken into account?
Cabbage Rules
Late white cabbage and cauliflower were always sown when the young spring nettle had put out its second tier of leaves.
Cabbage seedlings for winter storage should be sown during the period of bird cherry leaves blooming and aspen blossoming. Then the seedlings can be transplanted to open beds on May 18 (on the holiday of Arina the Seedling).
Cabbage planting was also timed to coincide with the Great Lent. If spring was early, it was planted in the 4th-5th week. And if it was late, the work was moved all the way to Holy Week.
Savoy, red and kohlrabi cabbages are sown when the willow begins to put out its fluffy buds or the daffodils begin to bloom.
There is also a rule: plant cabbage only during the waxing phase of the moon. And the deadline for planting is June 25.
