Elongated seedlings cannot be strong and will not be able to produce a good harvest, and by the time it comes to transplanting, they may disappear altogether.
There are several recommendations that will help stop the shoots from stretching. We will tell you how to save tomato seedlings.
1. Adjust watering
If the stems are tall and thin, then you need to reduce watering, even if the seedlings already seem unviable. In addition, you need to remember whether you have provided a drainage system in the container.
By the way, tomato seedlings are watered for the first time 10 days after the shoots appear.
2. Perform a dive
This procedure helps to strengthen the roots and slow down growth. The main thing is to do it in a timely manner. At the same time, you can place the plant in the ground up to the leaves - this can also help tomatoes.
3. Adjust the temperature
Ideally, tomato seedlings should grow in a room with a temperature of at least 23 degrees Celsius, but with sufficient lighting. If there is not enough light, then you will have to lower the degree (but not below +18).
4. Turn on the light
If the stems have become long and the crown is light, then you will have to buy phytolamps. This should not be an incandescent lamp - it will increase the temperature and will not provide the necessary spectrum of light. Tomatoes are illuminated for 12-15 hours.
5. Use special means
If the measures taken do not help, you can use products like "Athlete" and its analogues. This is a non-toxic and safe preparation for soil organisms.
