Quality care is the key to healthy and hardy seedlings. Of all the agrotechnical conditions used in growing plants, the most important is proper watering.

If you follow some of the subtleties of the watering process, strong seedlings will reward their owner with a bountiful harvest.

General rules for watering

1. A competent approach should start with sowing seeds. Prepared soil is watered before sowing the planting material. Watering already sown seeds will lead to their being drawn deep into the soil and low germination.

2. Before the emergence of seedlings, the substrate is moistened daily from a spray bottle.

3. During the period of emergence of young shoots, the soil is irrigated once every 3 days. The action is carried out carefully so as not to damage the weak, tender shoots.

4. After the plantings have strengthened, watering is carried out 1-2 times a week, depending on the specific crop and soil moisture.

5. After completing the picking, the soil is poured to the very bottom. Then it is enough to water once a week.

6. Before planting in a permanent place, stop watering for several days.

7. Fragile seedlings are sensitive. Lack of moisture or its excess will lead to the death of plants. It is better to under-water than to over-water.

8. It is best to carry out water treatments for seedlings in the morning.

Individual approach is a feature of irrigation

Each plant is individual and unique. A specific garden crop makes its own adjustments to the watering regime.

Cabbage needs a lot of water. Cucumbers, pumpkins, squashes, and pattypan squashes also experience a lack of moisture during the seedling period.

Representatives of the Solanaceae family: peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, dried flowers do not tolerate strong over-moistening. A slight drying of the soil ball will not cause serious harm to them.

Water selection is the key to success

Moisture quality plays a key role in agricultural technology of vegetable and flower crops. The following are used for seedlings:

  • snow or rain;
  • well or spring water;
  • settled or filtered tap water;
  • acidified. For 10 liters of settled liquid, take 1 gram of citric acid.

Warm water at room temperature is used for irrigation.

Distilled and boiled water are not suitable.

Watering methods

1. It is advisable to spray small shoots from a spray bottle.
2. It is convenient to water the grown plantings using a children's watering can with a spray nozzle.
3. It is recommended to water adult plants using a tray.
There are no universal watering recipes. It is important to look closely at young seedlings and maintain a balance in watering.

Proper watering is the key to healthy development of cultivated plants.
