It doesn’t matter whether we are talking about sanitary or formative pruning, there are a number of circumstances that simply cannot be ignored.
Here, the recommendations of the lunar calendar for gardeners and vegetable growers alone will not be enough. The most important thing is the weather, and then the phases of the moon and pruning options.
The best time to prune apple and pear trees
When starting sanitary or formative pruning of fruit trees in the spring, you must take into account the weather and the life cycle of the trees in your garden.
Anyone who decides to carry out the procedure will not be mistaken, even if the thermometer readings fluctuate between 0 and -5 degrees Celsius.
Gardeners note that the temperature should be stable in this range or tend to increase, but not decrease. If there is a threat of recurrent frosts, it is better to postpone pruning.
Before the sap starts to flow, the wood remains brittle. At this time, wounds may take longer to heal, but there is no point in waiting for warmth and buds to open.
It is advisable to choose a clear or at least just dry day - without rain or snow.
You also need to take into account the age of the trees and first of all start pruning mature trees (10-15 years old). They tolerate frosts better. Only then move on to young seedlings.
And most importantly, all procedures must be completed before the buds begin to bloom, and before pruning begins, the tool must be processed.
