Slow-moving gastropods can destroy a vegetable crop in a short period of time, and what they don’t spoil, they can infect.

To save the harvest, many have to collect the parasites by hand. However, it would be better to protect the beds in case they appear in the spring. We will tell you about the methods of control.

If slugs appear in the beds from time to time, they will not leave the greenhouse or hotbed of their own free will. All the conditions for their habitation are created there - warmth, humidity and plenty of food.

How to fight

The most reliable option is to install traps in a greenhouse or hothouse. Ordinary jars are used, which are buried level with the ground, and beer or kvass, syrup or juice are poured inside.

However, it is better to foresee and eliminate this gloomy prospect by protecting the greenhouse by sprinkling iron sulfate around the perimeter. The gastropod parasites simply will not be able to overcome such a barrier alive and well.

However, the fight against slugs must begin in the spring.

Where do slugs come from?

The pest loves a humid environment, and the melting snow and heavy rains at the beginning of spring only inspire optimism in the parasite. At this time, slugs have time to settle in greenhouses and become active simultaneously with the growth of plants.

To prevent gastropods, experienced gardeners also advise using mineral fertilizers, of which the pests dislike calcium the most.
