Cherries have become more difficult to grow in recent decades due to two problems.

The situation is especially difficult with old varieties, which are vulnerable to diseases.

An expert of the online publication Belnovosti , agronomist and author of the blog Conscious Gardening Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what threatens cherries the most.

Trees suffer most from coccomycosis and monoliosis. Soviet gardeners encountered the first scourge in the 1970s and 1980s. Monoliosis appeared a little later, around the 1990s.

Treating trees is very difficult, old varieties often die. Breeders are working on developing new varieties for which these diseases will pose less of a threat.

Therefore, experts advise planting cherries on your plot, especially modern Oryol and Belarusian varieties.

If the tree has released sap, which children call "glue", then it means that it is unlikely that the plant can be helped. Neither pruning nor increased watering will save it.
