There are quite a few factors that influence what kind of carrots will grow.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh said that the shape of root crops is affected by early sowing, soil, improper fertilizing, root damage, seed quality, watering... the list goes on and on.
However, there are a number of rules that will help prevent vegetables from becoming crooked.
It is worth preparing for a quality harvest from autumn. First of all, you need to provide future plantings with soft soil.
This can be done by adding a bucket of peat or the same amount of river sand to the soil – your choice.
Alternatively, you can use green manure, including rapeseed, white mustard or buckwheat.
As you might have guessed, correct and timely fertilizing is important. For this purpose, it is worth adding rotted compost to the beds in advance. During the growth of carrots, use fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus.
Finally, do not forget about thinning, which should be done when the first two leaves appear and again after 3 weeks.
