The codling moth harms not only apple trees, as one might think based on the name, but also other fruit trees.

Among them, according to the expert of the online publication Belnovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , are pear, plum, apricot and even walnut.

If you want to protect your garden from this dangerous pest, you will have to take several measures.

1. Twice a year – in spring and autumn – clean old bark from trees. This will help you get rid of cocoons that are in cracks.

2. Do not neglect collecting fallen fruit, shaking the tree slightly. This way, the caterpillars that end up on the ground will not be able to climb back up. The procedure should be performed daily.

3. Trapping belts are the gardener's helpers. They should be placed at the bottom of the trunk, close to the ground, where they will become an obstacle for caterpillars that decide to climb the tree.

4. Placing a tomato bed nearby is a great idea, because the smell of tomato tops will repel the parasite.

5. Plant flowering plants between the trees. They will serve as bait for insects that are natural enemies of the codling moth.
