If you want to harvest a good cabbage crop, no matter what variety, you need to choose a suitable place in the garden for future seedlings.

Let's figure out what this crop likes and what it does not tolerate and how to plant cabbage in open ground.

Soil

Cabbage will not grow in an acidic environment. It needs soil with a neutral pH balance. Liming, adding dolomite, etc. can help. Otherwise, the seedlings will soon be affected by clubroot, for the prevention of which fungicides are used.

It is best to grow nightshades, legumes, cucumbers, carrots, onions or garlic in this place before cabbage.

How to treat the soil

About 1 week before planting cabbage seedlings, the soil is treated with Bordeaux mixture (10 tbsp. per 10 liters of water) or phytosporin according to the instructions.

Landing time

Much depends on the weather and the cabbage variety. Early cabbage is planted after the night air temperature is stable at 8-10 degrees. Mid-season and late-season varieties after 2-3 weeks.

And some summer residents transplant seedlings into the ground after the bird cherry tree begins to bloom. Early cabbage is planted after the daffodils have finished blooming.

Seedling

It is considered that the seedlings are ready for transplantation after 4-5 leaves have formed on them. Before transplantation, the seedlings are hardened for 3-4 days in the fresh air or near an open window.

Early varieties are planted at a distance of 30 cm, and for late varieties, a planting pattern with an interval of 50-60 cm is followed.
