Some summer residents turn the compost pit into a unique place for the disposal of any organic waste.
Not everything can be composted. Experienced gardeners have told us about a component that will do more harm than good.
Many summer residents throw mown grass, peelings, fermented jam, sawdust, fallen leaves, cardboard and even bones and meat into the compost.
Some find a place there for fallen apples. They collect fallen fruit under the trees. Among these fruits, you can find specimens that have begun to rot on the branch.
If such apples end up in compost, the rot can spread to other plantings after the contaminated fertilizer is applied.
For example, fallen fruit is removed in the fall. A summer resident will not sort out which apple rotted on the ground and which was affected by microorganisms on the branch. Usually, all fruits are collected and thrown into the compost without sorting.
Most pathogens live up to 2 years in a warm environment. Compost is prepared on average in 6-12 months, but sometimes 3 years is not enough. It all depends on the preparation methods.
