An action similar to a mysterious folk ritual, when after planting potatoes, gardeners sprinkle the ground with salt.
Those who have tried this advice in practice claim that salt has a positive effect on potato yields. Is this really true and how to act so as not to "oversalt"?
Salt and the potato harvest
There are several methods known when salt helps gardeners at the stage of preparation for sowing. For example, you can check the tubers for a promising harvest.
To do this, you need to dissolve 1 kg of table salt in a bucket of water and, after it has completely dissolved, immerse the seed potatoes in the solution one by one.
If the tubers are unsuitable for planting, i.e. with a minimum amount of starch and nutrients, they will float.
High-quality tubers – hard and dense – in this case sink to the bottom.
Then the tubers are washed, dried and sent for planting.
Increasing crop yields
You can try replacing mineral fertilizers with regular table salt when planting potatoes in poor soil.
It is important to know that this method cannot completely replace sodium nitrate and potassium fertilizers. If you salt the potatoes after planting without fanaticism, there will be no particular harm.
