Gardeners can tell us about the existence of a certain apple blossom weevil, which is related to the weevil.
The beetles feed on buds, flowers and other vegetation. By gnawing out the buds on apple trees, they destroy the future harvest and with the same desire they attack other fruit trees.
Apple blossom weevil
A representative of the weevil family overwinters in hollows, cracks in tree bark or under fallen leaves. With the spring warming, it wakes up in search of food and can destroy awakened buds. If the beetle has damaged the buds, drops of juice will appear on them.
Females lay eggs in buds, leaving up to 60 eggs. The offspring will eat the buds from the inside.
How to fight
Experienced gardeners begin the fight when the pest begins to be active and do not stop until the end of the season. Otherwise, there will be no result.
1. Anything goes against the beetle. These can be trapping belts fixed at the base of the tree trunk. They should be placed before the buds open.
2. When the buds swell, you can shake the branches, spreading a film under the tree or bush, in order to collect and destroy the pests later. This method is effective in the morning and at an air temperature of no more than 10 degrees Celsius.
3. In addition, it is necessary to whitewash the trunks of fruit trees with lime - the flower beetle is less likely to attack such trees.
4. Of the chemical preparations, use "Karbofos", "Fufanon" or "Iskra Zolotaya", but only before the buds open.
5. Be sure to remove trash under the apple trees, loosen the soil around the tree trunks and carry out sanitary pruning. Birds will also make their contribution; they need to be attracted to the site and fed throughout the year.
