Spring is the time to prune fruit crops, and strawberry bushes should be no exception on this list.

In fact, this is the main and even starting event, without which further treatment against diseases and pests will not be very convincing. We will tell you about the terms and rules.

When to prune strawberries

1. It is important to understand that the arrival of the calendar spring is not yet a reason to climb into the garden bed with scissors or pruning shears. Wait until the snow melts and the soil dries out - this is the best time to carry out sanitary pruning. It is impossible to name more precise dates, since they are different in each region.

2. In addition, pruning is carried out only on a fine and sunny day. Precipitation and wind can lead to the most unfavorable consequences - unsanitary. It is better to plan the procedure for the morning, and if sunny weather is not expected, then it is possible on a cloudy day, but closer to the middle of the day.

3. How many times to prune? You can hear a lot about this, but experienced gardeners suggest that it is better to prune twice a year - in spring and autumn, because not all foliage can cope with frosts during the winter, and what seemed healthy in autumn will be unsuitable for life in spring.

Spring pruning rules

They cut off everything that is covered with suspicious spots, for which they carefully examine each bush.

Dry, diseased, frozen shoots and leaves are also removed - at the root. The main thing is not to harm the core.

After sanitary pruning, it would be a good idea to remove any excess tendrils if you do not plan to propagate this variety.

After this, all that remains is to remove the debris from the garden bed, burn it, loosen the soil, carry out cultivation, water if necessary, and then feed the berry bush.
