Trimming Strawberry Whiskers. Why It's So Important and How to Do It Right

There is a lot of controversy about trimming the runners on strawberry bushes.

However, as agronomists claim, this procedure is worth carrying out, because the plant, in order to grow whiskers, gives up a lot of its vital force instead of spending it on the yield of the bush.

Trimming the runners on strawberry bushes cannot be ignored.

Pruning rules

Trim only those tendrils that grow from the bottom closer to the ground and roots of the bush.

The first time they are cut in the spring before the beginning of the growing season, and the second time after fruiting has ended.

Use pruning shears or secateurs for this procedure.

And for further cultivation of a productive variety of strawberries, take the upper tendrils from the bush, because they are the strongest and best for obtaining young seedlings.

All tendrils are cut off from the bush if there is no need for young seedlings.
