Carrots are the main vegetable in the garden; they contain many vitamins and microelements.
In order for it to grow long, large and tasty, you need to follow several main rules.
Proper soil preparation
For a good carrot harvest, the soil for sowing should be loose, fertile and with a neutral pH reaction. To achieve this, peat, sawdust and sand should be added to the soil before sowing the seeds.
To reduce acidity, dolomite flour, chalk and wood ash are used.
It is also worth noting that this root crop loves soil that is well enriched with organic matter, added during digging in the fall, but not in the spring.
Thinning out seedlings
The carrot seedlings are thinned out for the first time at the stage of formation of the first true leaf. The second time is 10-14 days after the first, at the same time weeding the carrot beds from weeds is carried out.
Regular feeding
Carrots need potassium, so they can be fed with wood ash. To do this, dilute 1 cup of ash in a bucket of water or sprinkle it between the rows before rain or watering in the amount of 2-3 handfuls per 1 square meter.
Nitrogen fertilization is also necessary throughout the growth period.
To do this, dissolve 1 tablespoon of ammonium nitrate in 10 liters of water or prepare an infusion of various herbs.
When root vegetables begin to form, spray the carrots with boron on the leaves.
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of boric acid in 1 liter of boiling water and add up to 10 liters. At the same time, water the carrot rows with this solution. All fertilizing and watering of plants should be stopped 30-45 days before harvesting the root crops.
