Clay soil will turn into a fertile plot: just one step

Not all summer residents can boast of a plot of fertile land that constantly allows them to get excellent harvests.

Some gardeners have sandy loam and clay at their disposal. But even such soil can be turned into a fertile plot.

Clay makes the soil heavy and dense, and does not allow oxygen to pass through well. Root crops develop very poorly in soil that resembles plasticine when wet.

The reaction of such soil is mainly alkaline, which is also not suitable for many plants. Soil becomes heavy clay when it consists of more than 50% clay particles. When it is 10-30%, it is loam.

To make clay soil lighter and more fertile, it needs to be "diluted," gardeners advise. The larger the plot, the greater the amount of work.

Clay soil can be loosened using peat or vermiculite. An excellent and affordable option for this case is river sand.

Organic substances are added by digging to a depth of 5-15 cm. In tandem with clay, they create a fertile area that is rich in nutrients and retains moisture well.
