Zucchini only seem to bear fruit tirelessly at first glance. All you have to do is plant a not-so-successful plant next to them and you'll be left biting your elbows.

Let's figure out which vegetables can be planted nearby and which ones should be moved further away from the zucchini bed.

Garlic

This plant is a friend, comrade and brother to most garden crops. It protects against diseases and pests, and the squash gets nothing but profit and prospects from such a neighbor.

Legumes

They increase the level of nitrogen in the soil, and in a form accessible to zucchini. The proximity of beans and peas is especially beneficial when growing zucchini.

Corn

There is no particular benefit from such a neighborhood, vegetables simply grow well nearby. The same soil composition, conditions, the yield does not decrease.

Radish

Radishes can take a beating from insects such as flea beetles and striped cucumber beetles. These pests feed on greens and can affect squash crops.

Keep away from the squash bed

1. Cabbage in all its forms – kohlrabi, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, white cabbage and others – actively absorbs moisture, which can cause damage to the equally moisture-loving zucchini.

2. Potatoes can leave zucchini without nutrition and attract pests.

3. Fennel also slows down the growth of zucchini and is generally not the most pleasant neighbor for many vegetable crops.

4. Cucumbers are closely related to zucchini, and therefore there may be competition for a place in the sun, nutrients, as well as the risk of mutual infection, cross-pollination and pest attacks.
