Sciarids or fruit flies are dangerous insects that live in flower pots and can destroy plants.

Small flies appear due to excessive watering or home fertilizers. And getting rid of insects is not an easy task.

Gardeners have learned to easily deal with flies, and ordinary matches help solve the problem.

Houseplants require close attention. And it is important to know what to do so as not to harm the plants.

How to Use Matches Against Midges

The matches are stuck into the soil with their heads down and the flowers are cared for as usual.

This technique is most effective if the flowers have not been replanted for a long time and the soil has turned into a dense lump.

For a small pot with indoor flowers, 5-10 matches are enough. For larger vases, a larger number will do.

Typically, matches are inserted into the ground with their heads down to a depth of approximately 1 cm at a distance of 5 cm from each other.

After a few days, when the sulfur dissolves, the matches will be useless and can be thrown away. The procedure can be repeated if not all the midges have hatched.
