Not all people have enough space to store potatoes.
Ideally, the tubers should be put in a cellar for the winter, but apartment dwellers also want to make reserves. What should they do?
Balcony
If you have an unheated loggia, the storage issue can be considered solved. Such a place is quite suitable for potatoes.
The tubers are placed in sealed wooden boxes and sent to the balcony.
It is ideal if the box is properly prepared in advance: painted (for moisture resistance), made a convenient lid, provided with double walls, lining the inside with foam and sawdust.
Dark place
If a balcony is not available, there are also options. You can store potatoes simply in the apartment.
Any dark place (cupboard, storage room) will do, but it is important to remember that the potatoes will not last more than a month this way.
Very soon it will sprout or begin to shrivel.
Fridge
You can also store potatoes for a short time in the lower sections of the refrigerator, in a special vegetable compartment.
But first the tubers are wrapped in paper. Polyethylene is not suitable here because of the tightness and risk of rotting of the product.
Important to remember! When stored in the cold for a long time, potato starch is converted into sugars.
As a result, the tubers acquire a sweetness that is not everyone’s favorite.
