Cucumbers are very responsive to crop rotation rules, so when choosing a place to plant them, you need to remember what grew there before.

In this regard, there may be three unfavorable options that it is advisable to exclude in advance. These are representatives of the pumpkin family, root crops and berries.

1. Pumpkin

This family includes melons and watermelons, zucchini and squash, pumpkins and squash. They are all related to the cucumber, which means they will leave behind poor soil, hidden pests and, almost certainly, diseases.

2. Carrots

Of the root crops, this is the first enemy for the cucumber. It depletes the soil, which will have to be prepared most carefully for planting cucumbers. For this, it would not hurt to sow green manure in the fall, and then dig it up and add manure.

3. Strawberries

Over the three years that strawberries grow in one place, the soil becomes depleted. Cucumbers will take root, but will not yield a good harvest.

To protect cucumbers from trouble, it makes sense to plant marigolds next to them, which will scare away pests.

Corn will protect the garden bed from strong winds and drafts, and at the same time from fungal diseases.
