How to properly cover large-leaved hydrangea for the winter: check if you have done everything correctly

Unlike tree and panicle hydrangea, large-leaved hydrangea requires mandatory shelter for the winter.

An expert of the online publication "Belnovosti", agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told about how to thoroughly protect the plant from winds and frosts.

First, you need to bend the branches to the ground.

Important: it is necessary to place a substrate, for example, made of foam plastic, under the stems so that they do not touch the ground.

Cover the hydrangea with oak leaves, then you can begin installing the arches.

It is necessary to stretch spunbond over the arches, and then place a large plastic box on which spunbond will also have to be stretched.

To prevent moisture from getting in, you can place something else on top – even a piece of linoleum will do.

This complex but reliable scheme will protect hydrangeas in the event that they begin to wake up in the spring before the return frosts, which inevitably leads to freezing of the bush.
