Shallots, unlike the familiar onions, are not often found in garden plots.
An expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explains this fact by the fact that summer residents are in no hurry to grow the new crop due to the small heads that result.
It is worth noting that the size of the bulbs is influenced by several factors.
1. The onion sets produce a whole bunch of new bulbs, and it is impossible to change this state of affairs.
2. Shallots react differently to long feathers than onions.
So, if you cut off the above-ground part of the traditional version, its growth will stop. Shallots, on the contrary, need to be cut constantly.
Trimming of such onions should be carried out on a regular basis, as soon as the greens reach a representative size.
That's the whole secret to getting large shallots - you can only achieve larger bulbs through regular pruning.
