The head of the Russian state made this statement on December 4 at the VTB forum “Russia Calling!”, commenting on the threats of the elected US President Donald Trump to introduce duties on goods from BRICS countries if they abandon the dollar.

On November 30, Trump said he would impose 100 percent tariffs on goods from BRICS countries if they created a new currency or abandoned the dollar.

Commenting on this statement, Putin noted that the current American administration has done a lot to undermine the status of the dollar as a global reserve currency.
