Oatmeal has long been strongly associated with healthy eating.
But, despite all the beneficial properties that this dish has, it is also considered bland and monotonous.
Luckily, there are a few ways to not only increase the nutritional value, but also make it much more appealing to your taste buds.
Honey instead of sugar
A natural sweetener such as honey will give the porridge a pleasant sweet taste, and also add useful microelements and antioxidants to its composition.
To avoid subjecting honey to additional heat treatment, add it to the already prepared porridge when it has cooled down a little.
Coconut milk
Coconut milk gives oatmeal an exotic flavor and creamy texture. And given the fact that the product is naturally sweet, you can also “save” on sugar.
Want to make your bowl smell even more coconutty? Try sprinkling your porridge with coconut flakes and a pat of coconut oil.
Nuts and candied fruits
Nuts are a great source of protein, healthy fats and vitamins, while candied fruit adds natural sweetness and extra nutrients.
Before adding nuts and candied fruits to the porridge, it is recommended to soak them in water and then dry them.
Bananas
Bananas are an ideal addition to oatmeal, providing it with potassium, vitamin B6 and dietary fiber, among other things.
Bananas can be cut into thin slices and added to the cooked porridge, or mashed and mixed with the oatmeal during cooking for a smoother consistency.
