Champignons are considered safe mushrooms, but this does not mean that it is impossible to get poisoned by them.

Although cases of poisoning by these mushrooms are rare, the risk still exists, said surgeon Alexander Umnov.

If you don't want to face any negative consequences from eating champignons, you need to be sure that they were picked in a suitable place.

Such places do not include roadsides, city limits or areas close to industrial zones.

This requirement is due to the fact that mushrooms can be compared to real sponges that absorb toxins, exhaust fumes, heavy metals and other harmful substances.

It is also worth paying attention to the expiration date of the mushrooms.

You can tell that the mushrooms have gone bad by their black color and the mucus covering them, as well as by the unpleasant smell they emit.

Such mushrooms are prohibited for consumption.

Finally, be careful when eating raw mushrooms - you'll be better off if you cook them.
