Everyone knows about the benefits of mineral water, but not everyone knows about the contraindications to its use.
Gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and therapist at the Hadassah Clinic in Skolkovo, Andrey Yakushev, told us who shouldn’t drink mineral water.
For what diseases is it forbidden to drink mineral water?
As Yakushev explained, due to the high sodium content, mineral water is contraindicated for people with edema syndrome of any etiology, chronic heart failure, arterial hypertension, liver cirrhosis and kidney disease.
In case of cirrhosis and severe chronic heart failure, the specialist specified, the consumption of 2 g of sodium per day is allowed, in case of hypertension – up to 5 g of sodium per day.
As for the benefits of mineral water, according to the doctor, it is especially useful for people with a clinical picture of dehydration.
This water will not harm healthy citizens either, but it should not be abused, as with any other products, Gazeta.Ru quotes Yakushev as saying.
