What should curtains be like in a Khrushchev-era apartment with low ceilings: advice from a designer

The height of ceilings in so-called “Khrushchev-era” apartments, as a rule, does not exceed 2.7 meters.

For this reason, there are a number of things that should never be done in such apartments - otherwise, you will get the feeling that the ceiling is “pressing on your head”.

One of the mistakes, according to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino, is related to curtains.

It turns out that in such housing short curtains are prohibited.

If you are the owner of an apartment with low ceilings, do not buy curtains that cover only the window and do not cover the wall below it.

As a result, it begins to seem that the ceiling has become even lower than it actually is.

There is only one exception to this rule – the kitchen, where the window can be covered with Roman or Japanese blinds.

Instead, hang a curtain rod to which you attach long curtains made of flowing fabrics. This solution will visually “stretch” the ceiling.

The color of the curtains should be chosen based on the overall interior of the room. A good idea is to select textiles in the style of the carpet, decorative pillows or upholstery on upholstered furniture.

For reference

Curtains are a general name for household functional and decorative window or door curtains made of fabric and other materials.
