5 Common Mistakes in Decor Arrangement: They Will Make a City Apartment Look Like a Country House

Decorative elements play an important role in interior design, being the finishing touch to the overall image of the room.

But, as designer Yulia Tychino , an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, explained, it is easy to make mistakes when choosing and arranging such elements.

We suggest you learn how to properly arrange decor to avoid an awkward or out-of-place look.

Don't try to create a composition from disparate elements

Eclecticism is certainly in fashion, but creating a composition of objects from different styles is oh so difficult. To do this, you will need: a) good taste; b) experience.
Instead of taking risks, create a composition of decorative elements in the same style and add bright colors or noticeable textures to it.

Don't Ignore Seasonal Decor

Themed seasonal decor is an affordable way to update your interior and make sure it doesn’t get boring. For example, in summer you can decorate the room with wild or garden flowers, and buy green pillowcases for your sofa cushions. Red, orange, yellow and brown shades will look harmonious in an autumn interior, which can be complemented with various elements related to autumn, etc.

Don't combine items with the same pattern.

If you put several checkered pillows on the sofa at once, you will end up with a harmonious, but at the same time monotonous and even boring decor. What to do? Use a little eclecticism - use contrasting geometric prints of different shades, shapes and sizes, or combine geometry with floral patterns.

Don't use too many small items.

A lot of little things taking up all the free space create a feeling of clutter. There is a way out - leave only the most beautiful interior decorations in a visible place, and hide the rest in a drawer or in a closet.
When choosing decor, it would be a good idea to consider the size of the room: the larger the room, the larger the decorative elements should be.

Don't overload the tables with decor

The table has its own functions, and if you clutter it with various small items, it will interfere with its intended use. Therefore, work tables, dining tables and kitchen countertops should be as free as possible from unnecessary items. In extreme cases, you can add a few items that will perform certain functions and at the same time decorate the surface.
