Often, when trying to transform our home, we make mistakes that can spoil the overall appearance and atmosphere of the room.

Expert of the online publication BelNovosti, designer Yulia Tychino will consider five common mistakes in interior design and give advice on how to avoid them so that your home looks stylish and harmonious.

No clear vision

This common mistake often happens when people rush to transform a space without having a clear idea of the end result.

People tend to design spaces based on details, but it is recommended to take a holistic approach to design so that the end result does not look disjointed.

Furniture is the wrong size

Another common mistake that many people make is buying furniture that is the wrong size for the space. This can really change the space, for example, a large dining table in a small room will make it look even smaller, and a tiny sofa in a spacious room will look comical.

Make sure you measure your space correctly. Don't rush into buying huge items until you know if they'll fit.

Trying to combine many different styles

There are so many styles that it can be difficult to decide on the final design of a room. Modern, Art Deco, Maximalism and thousands of other styles to draw inspiration from. If you combine too many styles, the space will end up looking cluttered.

This is one of the biggest mistakes people make on a regular basis. One of the style mixing tricks that you should use is the 70/30 rule.

So, use about 70% of the space in one style, and then add 30% of another style. For example, you can liven up a traditional space by adding a few modern pieces.

Insufficient contrast

Insufficient contrast in the interior of the house can make the space dull and boring, which can subsequently affect the mood. Contrast will help to highlight certain features in the room.

It's mostly about color, but contrast can be achieved whether you're mixing shades or adding texture with different materials or plants. Contrast is key to adding depth to a space.

In a neutral palette, natural elements can create a beautiful contrast without being too overwhelming.

Blindly following design trends

Everyone loves interior design trends, but they can come and go quickly. Being heavily reliant on trends can have a negative impact on how people feel in their homes.

Every space should be unique to each person, so use trends as inspiration rather than a strict formula to follow.

It is impossible not to be influenced by all the styles that people see. Think about what you like and only then start decorating the room, otherwise you will have to constantly update the space.
