How Potato Pancakes Are Made in Japan: No Potatoes, But Still Delicious

In the Land of the Rising Sun, draniki are prepared completely differently than in Belarus.

Instead of potatoes, Japanese cooks use a different main ingredient.

We are talking about cabbage. Other vegetables are also added.

Despite the absence of potato components, it turns out very tasty.

This interesting dish is called "Okonomiyaki".

It is a fried vegetable pancake that can easily be called a “Japanese potato pancake”.

Yulia Arkhipova, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti in the field of cooking, a cook and a fourth-class baker, spoke about this delicious treat that can be prepared instead of traditional potato pancakes.

How to Make Okonomiyaki

Finely chop 400 grams of white cabbage. Sprinkle the resulting mass with salt and knead this base.

Add 200 grams of carrots and 300 grams of zucchini: both vegetables should be cut into thin strips.

Break an egg into a container with the vegetable mixture, add 200 grams of flour. Mix the mixture well.

At this point, the preparation of the base for the flatbread will come to an end. All that remains is to fry the dish on both sides.

The finished dish can be topped with some sauce. Okonomiyaki also goes well with meat.
