The traditional recipe for charlotte includes eggs and milk, which are prohibited during Lent.
But, according to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, chef Yulia Arkhipova , you can make an equally delicious apple pie without these products - and in this case, the dish is suitable for both those fasting and vegetarians.
To prepare a lean charlotte you will need the following ingredients:
• flour – 220 g;
• water – 200 ml;
• lemon zest – 1 tsp;
• vegetable oil – 90 ml;
• apples – 4 pcs.;
• baking powder – 1 tsp;
• sugar – 140 g;
• a pinch of salt;
• vanillin to taste;
• powdered sugar for decoration.
Dissolve sugar, vanilla and salt in warm water. Add vegetable oil and lemon zest, then baking powder and, stirring constantly, gradually add sifted flour.
The dough should be smooth and slightly thick.
Peel the apples and cut them into large cubes, then add them to the dough and mix well.
Lightly dust the baking pan with flour to prevent the cake from sticking or burning.
Pour the batter into the pan and bake in a preheated oven at 190 degrees for about 45 minutes.
To check if the pie is ready, insert a wooden stick into the center of the pie, pull it out, and check for dryness - if it is dry, then the pie is ready.
Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool, then sprinkle it with powdered sugar.
