How to Make Old Potatoes Tastier: Add a Cheap Ingredient – Not Garlic, Not Dill, Not Butter

Unfortunately, at the end of winter we are all forced to eat up our reserves of old potatoes – we can only dream of new potatoes in February.

Tubers that have been lying in the cellar for months are not nearly as tasty and aromatic as we would like, agrees Yulia Arkhipova, an expert at the online publication BelNovosti.

Luckily, there is a simple life hack that guarantees that even the most ordinary potatoes will turn into a delicious and aromatic side dish.

Most cooks know that butter, garlic and dill can turn potatoes into a real delicacy.

However, these ingredients should only be added after the potatoes are cooked.

But the product we are going to tell you about today needs to be boiled together with the tubers to significantly improve the taste of old potatoes.

We are talking about a regular onion. It needs to be cut in half and thrown into the pot along with the potatoes.

After cooking, the root vegetable can be removed from the pan; it is not worth serving, unless you are a fan of boiled onions.

In addition, while boiling potatoes, you can add 2-3 cloves of garlic to the pan. This will make the potatoes even more flavorful. Bay leaves and chopped carrots will also add flavor to the broth.

To prevent the potatoes from boiling over, add vinegar at the beginning of cooking (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of water). If you need to speed up the cooking process, put a piece of butter in boiling water - thanks to the resulting film, the process will go faster.
