Most cooks check the readiness of potatoes with a knife - if the blade gently enters the flesh of the tuber, then the water can be drained.

However, professionals believe that when cooking potatoes, you also need to take into account the variety and age of the tubers, as well as other important points.

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Yulia Arkhipova , a cook and fourth-class baker, told how to cook potatoes correctly.

How to cook potatoes

There are several ways to prepare this vegetable, but they all start with one thing – cleaning.

1. To preserve not only the taste but also the useful properties of the tuber, it is necessary to peel the tubers as thinly as possible. It is more convenient to do this with a vegetable peeler.

2. An alternative way to preserve vitamins is to boil the tubers in their skins, or, as they say, in their jackets. But then the potatoes have a completely different taste.

3. You can pour either cold or hot water over the tubers.

4. But the duration of cooking potatoes depends not only on the variety. It is mainly determined by age and size.

It may take about 20 minutes to boil a whole potato. And for mashed potatoes, the vegetable is boiled a little longer.

If we are talking about a young crop, then 10-15 minutes will be enough.

5. And the last important point. It is believed that you need to salt the water before it boils, and then put the vegetables in it.
