Why are some egg yolks orange and others yellow: which ones are healthier

There is an opinion that the darker the yolk, the more natural and healthy the egg.

We'll tell you why this is a myth and what the color of an egg yolk depends on.

What determines the color of the yolk

In fact, the color of the yolk does not say anything about the taste or health benefits of the eggs, only about the color of the food the chicken ate or the presence of dyes in it.

The bright orange color of the yolk is given by carotenoids, which are found, for example, in corn and alfalfa.

If you feed chickens colorless feed, for example, light-colored wheat, the yolk will be pale.

Poultry farms, by the way, avoid colorless feed or add synthetic dyes to it, since consumers prefer eggs with bright yolks.
