How experienced housewives store tomatoes: they don’t rot for a long time and stay fresh

If you follow certain rules when storing food, you will have to go to the store for a new portion of vegetables and fruits much less often.

The savings – both in time and money – are, as they say, obvious.

Today we will quickly tell you what to do with tomatoes if you want them to stay fresh as long as possible.

The main rule to follow when storing tomatoes consists of just two words and is: “No polyethylene.”

The whole point is that tomatoes are capable of releasing ethylene. When placed in a bag made of this material, the fruits become ripe much faster due to the fact that this gas has no opportunity to “escape” to the outside.

Instead, to store these fruits (and tomatoes, by the way, are one of them), it is worth using bags made of paper.

And they should be folded in a certain way - with their tails down.

But if you have to deal with fully ripe tomatoes, store them, on the contrary, with their stems up, choosing a dark place and room temperature for this.
